Rotterdam is the second largest city of Holland, but also Europe's biggest port. The city was almost destroyed by German air attacks in 1940. Rotterdam was rebuilt with modern shopping streets and high buildings. Now Rotterdam is one of the most modern and architecturally interesting cities in Europe.
There's nothing modern about Kinderdijk. This village has nineteen original windmills, built around 1740. The mills have been a UNESCO World Heritage since 1997.
